16 Jahre alt. Nein, ich bin unter 16 Jahre alt.

Our values
  • Our values

Our world has changed, our values haven’t.

Excellent beer has been brewed here in Freising since the year 1160. With great dedication, we have done our utmost over the past years to preserve four traditional breweries and their brewing tradition under the roof of the Hofbrauhaus. That goes for every type of beer along with its individual character.

It is important to all our employees and to my family to take our beer tradition, which has grown and developed over 850 years, into the future. After all, we have had centuries of experience in producing beer, and it is a key component of the proverbial pleasure-culture of our Bavarian homeland.

Sincerely yours, The Count of Toerring-Jettenbach

Origin

Beer is at home in Freising

Freising has long been influenced by beer. As long ago as the year 825 there were hops grown outside the town. Beer is also “taught” in Freising, and the Technical University of Munich in Freising is a world leader in brewing research.

The history of settlement dates back to the early Middle Ages when the town was called Frisinga, and was a ducal seat in the first Bavarian duchy (555 AD). Freising is the only known town to have been founded by the Bavarian Agilolfinger, and is thus the oldest town in Upper Bavaria.

Secularization in the year 1802/03 finally meant the abolition of the more than thousand-year-old Hochstift Freising and thus the end of the spiritual rule of the Freising Prince-Bishops. Today, Freising has over 45,000 inhabitants, making it the fourth-largest city in Upper Bavaria.

With the company Krones (formerly Steinecker) we also have one of the leading manufacturers of brewery plants in Freising.

Prince-Bishop’s Hofbrauhaus

Our brewery was the brewery of the prince-bishop of Freising. Mention was made of a bishop owning his own brewery as long ago as the 12th century. In the middle of the 17th century, the Hofbrauhaus was integrated into the Renaissance palace called the "Neubau" - today's Philippschloss, the Freisinger Domgymnasium. It was extended several times during the 18th century. From 1738 onwards, in addition to the classic dark beer, wheat beer was also produced. Later, brandy was also produced on a grand scale. At that time it was not so much a matter of providing beer to the prince-bishop's court as of making a decent profit from selling the drinks. The "Hochfürstliche Hofbräuamt Freysing" was created to administer the Hofbrauhaus, and was headed by the Hofbräuamtsverwalter. Under him were the Hofbraumeister, the Bräuknechte and the so-called Bier-Aufleger (men responsible for transporting the barrels). Then there were the Hofbierschäffler, coopers whose job was to build or repair the barrels in the Bräustadel on the Isarlände.
