    Our world has changed, our values haven’t.

    Excellent beer has been brewed here in Freising since the year 1160. With great dedication, we have done our utmost over the past years to preserve four traditional breweries and their brewing tradition under the roof of the Hofbrauhaus. That goes for every type of beer along with its individual character.

    It is important to all our employees and to my family to take our beer tradition, which has grown and developed over 850 years, into the future. After all, we have had centuries of experience in producing beer, and it is a key component of the proverbial pleasure-culture of our Bavarian homeland.

Traditional and forward-looking: Our brewery

Freising – the “heart of old Bavaria” – lies on the banks of the river Isar between Munich and Landshut, surrounded by hills, in beautiful Upper Bavaria. Beer has been brewed here for more than 850 years.

Hofbrauhaus Freising

It was in 1160, under the Freising Prince Bishop Albert I of Harthausen, that the brewery on the Domberg was first mentioned in documents. In the course of secularization, the Hofbrauhaus became the property of the Bavarian electress Maria Leopoldine. She bequeathed it to her son Aloys von Arco-Stepperg. After the count’s death in 1891, his daughter Sophie von Moy de Sons took over the management of the brewery. She had the new building constructed at its present location. The “new” Hofbrauhaus Freising consists of an elaborately structured central building and several outbuildings. The brewery was designed between 1911 and 1912 by Theodor Ganzenmüller in the Art Nouveau style. Under the supervision of the brewing scientist and professor at the Weihenstephan Academy, Germany’s most modern brewery at the time was built here. Since December 1998, the Hofbrauhaus has been owned by the Bavarian counts of Toerring-Jettenbach. The Toerring beers are now also brewed at the Hofbrauhaus.
